The presentation will be the second of its kind; the first one was successfully completed in May 2010, when a young lady from Cape Coral, Miss Desiree Leilani Gil, won the MFQ title. Desiree will be handing down the crown to a lucky winner before the end of the year. These bilingual Quinceañera pageants aim to enrich and unite today’s youth, and in addition maintain a rich Hispanic tradition of important cultural value to many in the Latin community. The Hispanic television station Telemundo 43 WWDT Naples-Fort Myers will be one of the principal sponsors of this event, supporting the project as in the previous year.
Young ladies ages 12 to 17 years old from all cultural backgrounds are invited to participate. Potential contestants need to request an application by E-mail, accompanied by submitting their picture and an essay titled: “Why I Want to Win the Miss Florida Quince Pageant Crown.” Characteristics such as academic achievements, community participation, poise, inner beauty and personality will play a role in the selection process. Entries will be reviewed and confirmed for personal interviews in each city. The winner will receive scholarship money and a variety of prizes; the 2010 winner received $1,500 dollars to be used towards her educational advancement.
