St. Augustine: A City of Love and Romance

If you dream of love, and who doesn’t … let me take you to a place where you will fall in love every day while you spend a pleasant time, enjoying subtle touches of an era gone by. If you want to disconnect and immerse yourself in a place where there are no crowds of people, or long waiting lines, then I recommend the “City of Romance” as it is called by the residents of this picturesque city of St. Augustine. A city which is a treasure of our State of Florida, as it  exudes Spanish culture and the ambiance instills the desire to forget the present, and just enjoy passionate love; simultaneously, it has the peculiarity of being able to revive those relationships that occasionally need to add a bit of fuel to the fire! You slowly regain your senses and feel alive again, being delighted by nostalgia and memories of a time, where life was much simpler and certainly kept a greater spiritual mystery and a healthy desire to live to the fullest.

Once you arrive at this little piece of heaven, forget big hotels and buildings ten stories high, since they do not exist. My advice is to experience the wonderful American concept called “The Bed and Breakfast Inn.” This method of accommodation is not for everyone, but if you are the type of person who likes cozy places, historical landmarks, quaint spots, sunny mornings with sumptuous breakfasts, beautifully decorated abodes, antique period furniture, hot tubs and fireplaces inside your very own boudoir, opulent and inviting beds with fluffy pillows,  and let’s not forget… before retiring to bed, the immense joy of a small dose of port wine, served with a delicious, sinful chocolate morsel from the city’s re-known  Claude’s Chocolatier; then I dare to say, if any of these items has called your attention, you are a good candidate for this love trip indeed!

 
Saint Augustine is famous for being the oldest city in this country, and is one of those places in the United States that keeps this style of vacation style so rich in tradition, the popular stay  at an “Inn” as they call these lodgings. It is here in this city, with all the great atmosphere described in the paragraph above , that you will find the distinguished “Collection of the Inns of Elegance, ” five elegantly appointed  vacation accommodations, each memorable in its own decor. The names of these B & B are : the St. Francis Inn, offering beautiful rooms and culinary delights throughout the day, the Bayfront Marin, with spacious accommodation and ample front porches and garden gazebo great for weddings, the Casablanca Inn with its famous Tini Martini Bar, responsible for delicious libations such as the Purple Martini and… let’s not forget the charm of their  Secret Garden area for weddings. We also have the Bayfront Westcott House, offering hospitality and elegant suites with comfortable balconies overlooking the bay, and finally the Inn on Charlotte, well known for a well-deserved reputation for gourmet breakfasts, attention to detail, and impeccable decor in every single room. Each of the Inns offer several suites, they usually have under 15 in number;  guests share the common areas like the dining room, living room, garden and porch. The ambiance created here transports you to another period in time. If you are spending only one weekend or a complete week; I am sure you will not want to depart, once you have arrived at these beautiful locations.

Most of these “Bed and Breakfast” are of an architecture stemming from the period of the 1400’s, and have been transformed and restored for use in the present, following a strict code of the city, in which they share a commitment to maintain the originality and integrity of the history that sets them apart.  All these have delights to encounter, in one Inn, you may enjoy lavender-scented sheets, believe me when I tell you that you will fall asleep flat face on your pillow, and definitely dream with the sweetest of angels.
Others may offer fresh lemonade and oven baked cookies, that may await you upon your return from long walks through the ancient city, (which can easily be explored on foot), or on the new “Old Town White Wedding Trolley. You can visit museums, art galleries, and incredible restaurants that will amaze you, such as the small but incomparable Bistro de Leon with award winning Chef Stephane Poinard, who is always creating exciting new French dishes for you to “savour” every time.  After dinner, late in the evening… do not be surprised if you hear ghost tales, war stories and pirates murmur softly in your ears, as you walk the cobbled alleys and hear the bells of churches softly toll.

Si usted sueña con el amor, y ¿quién no?… le cuento de un lugar donde enamorarse todos los días y pasar una placentera estancia con un toque tradicional y muy romántico. Si desea desconectarse y sumergirse en un sitio donde no hay tumultos de gente, o largas líneas de espera, entonces le recomiendo  la “Ciudad del Romance” como le llaman sus habitantes a su pintoresco San Agustín. Esta histórica ciudad de rico origen español, instiga el deseo de olvidar el presente y disfrutar apasionados amores; a la vez tiene la peculiaridad de poder revivir aquellas relaciones que necesitan de vez en cuando echar un poco de leña al fuego. Poco a poco irá recobrando los sentidos, dejándose deleitar por  la nostalgia y los recuerdos de una era, donde la vida era mucho más simple, pero guardaba un gran misterio espiritual y un deseo de vivir sana y plenamente.

Cuando llegue a este pedacito de cielo, olvide los grandes hoteles y altos edificios, ya que no existen. Mi sugerencia es que experimente el concepto Americano llamado, “Bed and Breakfast,” el cual traducido literalmente al español es “Cama y Desayuno”. Este modo de hospedaje no es para todos, pero si usted es el tipo de persona que le gustan los lugares acogedores, lo histórico, lo típico, las mañanas soleadas con desayunos opíparos, decoraciones con toques de periodos antiguos, invitadores jacuzzis y chimeneas dentro de su misma habitación, opulentas e invitadoras camas con suntuosos almohadones y antes de retirarse a dormir, por supuesto… una copa de vino oporto, acompañado con un exquisito chocolate del reconocido Chocolatero de la cuidad Claude. Si esto le suena atractivo, usted es un excelente candidato para este paseo.
 
San Agustín, famosa por ser la ciudad más vieja de este país, es uno de esos lugares de los Estados Unidos que mantiene este estilo de vacaciones ofreciendo hospedaje en famosos “Inns”, como también le llaman a los “Bed and Breakfast”. Aquí en esta grandiosa atmosfera, encontrara  los distinguidos “Inns of Elegance”, una colección de cinco selecciones de alojamiento, cada uno inolvidable en su estilo. Estas casas cuentan con varios cuartos, usualmente menos de 15 y los huéspedes comparten las áreas comunes como el comedor, la sala y sus jardines o portales. El ambiente de ellas lo transportan a otro periodo de tiempo, lo mismo si dispone de solo un fin de semana, o una semana completa. Usted no deseará que llegue su partida. Los “Bed and Breakfast” son de arquitectura antigua del periodo de los años 1400. Ellas han sido transformadas para uso en el presente, siguiendo un estricto código de la ciudad, en el cual no se compromete quebrar la originalidad e integridad de su origen histórico. Todas estas magnificas residencias tienen su  propia esencia y cada “Innkeeper” le da su toque personal. En algunas de las mismas, hasta encontrara sabanas con aroma a lila para que usted caiga redondito en la almohada a soñar con los dulces angelitos. La limonada y las galleticas horneadas frescas, siempre le esperan al regreso de sus largos paseos por la antigua ciudad, la que puede recorrer a pie, o a bordo del nuevo “Old Town Wedding Trolley” o Carrito de Bodas, donde visitara museos y galerías de arte y restaurantes, como Bistró de León, con su reconocido Chef Stephane Poinard, ganador de varios trofeos por su cocina Francesa. No se sorprenda si después de la cena, mientras da un paseo por los callejones de adoquines, los piratas le murmuraran suavemente al oído cuentos de fantasmas e historias de guerra.

Verdaderamente, esta es la “Ciudad del Romance”, un destino muy especial donde usted puede celebrar intimas y románticas bodas en estas lindas casas y sus jardines, en sus pintorescos parques públicos como la atracción de la “Fuente de la Juventud.” La ciudad con gusto le abre sus puertas para todas sus ocasiones especiales. Después de la boda, despida a los invitados y a disfrutar de una luna de miel inolvidable. Y si ya está casado, no importa, celebre un aniversario más de bodas ¡Recuerde que en San Agustín recobrara aquello que una vez los hizo suspirar juntos con regocijo!
